Naked Wedding Cakes

{Source}

Happy Birthday to... Me! Being both a birthday and wedding tradition, I feel it's only appropriate to share my new favorite nontraditional cake trend - naked cakes! Aside from adding the perfect homespun touch, this guilty plessure isn't so guilty after all because much of the calories are cut back by only frosting between the layers, love! But wait, it gets even better - naked cakes are extremely DIY friendly! So what do you think, are you a fan of naked cakes?!

Wedding Dessert Trend: French Macarons

{Source}
Macarons, Macarons, Macarons! Seriously what is up with this pretty little treat that is taking the wedding dessert table by storm?! I have yet to try and from what I hear I am really missing out! Which has led me on a mission to figure out what this cookie is really all about!

Apparently, the Macaron is a French delicacy finally making it's big appearance here in the United States. Macarons consist of two parts: an almond-meringue shell and a soft, creamy filling. The shell of a Macaron is delicately crisp, often brightly colored on the outside, and yields to a soft cloudlike texture on the inside. The ‘melt-in-your-mouth’ sensation is carried further by a creamy filling of ganache, buttercream or jam. Quite simply, Macarons are a perfect balance of color, flavour and texture, all encapsulated in a delightful little bite-size package.  And I haven't even gotten to the best part, these little beauties are totally gluten-free giving every guest the opportunity to indulge!

So are you sold but not sure how to incorporate Macarons into the big day? Instead of the traditional wedding cake or cupcake stand, why not opt for a Macaron tower! From Macaron dessert table displays to packaged wedding favors, the options are endless!

Trick or Treat : A Vintage Halloween Dessert Table

Happy Halloween Everyone! In honor of this spooky holiday, I thought it only fitting to feature a truly vintage Halloween inspired dessert table. So what do you think, Trick or Treat?!

To create the perfect vintage Halloween look, the design team utilized a mix of antique books, cameras, medicine bottles, and old documents. As well as an old clock and typewriter, shutters, and window panes.

DIY Dipped Marshmallow Pops

How adorable are these little marshmallow treats for the dessert table?! Not only are they delicious but are also an easy and budget-savvy DIY;

What you will need:
(Ingredients needed for 25 pops)
  • Parchment or wax paper
  • 25 sip stick straws (coffee stirrers) or lollipop sticks
  • 25 large marshmallows
  • Candy sprinkles
  • 1 cup any flavor chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil or vegetable shortening
 ___________________________

Begin by preparing your area; line a baking sheet with parchment paper, place lollipop sticks/straws into the center of each marshmallow, and pour sprinkles onto plates (a plate for each kind of sprinkle).

Next, melt chocolate chips in a small, uncovered, microwave-safe bowl following the package directions. Stir. Then, stir in oil as this will help to keep the chocolate fluid.  Next, dip marshmallows halfway into the melted chocolate; shake off excess.

Then, roll chocolate covered marshmallows in sprinkles.

Place marshmallows onto lined baking sheet and let set for at least 30 minutes.

Cute right?! Use different colors and kinds of sprinkles to fit into your wedding theme! Try packaging the marshmallow treats in decorative bags or by placing each pop onto a cupcake liner.

DIY Apple Cider Cups

Do I have a treat for y'all today; An apple inspired DIY that is perfect for any fall wedding!

What you will need:

Paring Knife
Large Spoon or Melon Baller
Large Apples
Lemon Juice
Apple Cider

Garnish Options: Cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, allspice, or star anise.

Instructions:

On a cutting board, begin by using a knife to cut off the top of an apple.  Then use a paring knife to carefully outline the "rim" of the apple cup, I recommend a 1/4" wide rim. Next, use a large spoon or melon baller to scoop out the center of the apple until you have a nice sized "cup". While hollowing out the apple, be mindful not to get too close or cut through the bottom/sides of the apple as this will cause the cider to leak! Once the inside of the apple has been hollowed out, brush lemon juice over the inside of the apple to prevent browning.  Lastly, fill with apple cider, garnish, serve, and enjoy!

TIP: If an apple doesn’t sit exactly level, take a paring knife and slice off a few millimeters from the bottom to even off.

DIY Hot Cocoa Favor

On this chilly fall afternoon, nothing sounds better than a nice warm cup of hot cocoa. So I got to thinking, hot cocoa would also make a great fall wedding favor! Here is an easy DIY that's guaranteed to warm the hearts of all in attendance!

Here's what you will need:
  • Hot chocolate mix (Store bought or if you really want to be ambitious, give this DIY a try!)
  • Marshmallows (Store bought or if you really want to be ambitious, give this DIY a try!)
  • Powdered sugar
  • Heart cut out
  • Mason jars
  • Pretty ribbons, tags, and packaging (Get creative)

Directions:

1) Cut marshmallows in half horizontally. Then using heart cut out, press through the center of the marshmallows.

2) Because the marshmallows will be sticky, dip the sticky side of each marshmallow into the powdered sugar. This will keep them from sticking to the bag upon packaging.

 3)  Package marshmallows in bag and fill mason jar with hot cocoa mix.

4) Lastly, creatively decorate each mason jar!
